Iceland [ We Made God ] are the latest Icelandic band to step up to the mark and their debut album delivers soaring, epic, driving rock of the highest calibre. The fourpiece are all in their early 20-something’s and are:

Arnór [ guitars ] Stuni [ bass ] Biggi [ drums ] Maggi [ vocals, guitars ]

From the gentle introspection to brutal noise of album opener Gizmo to the pyschedlic riffing of the Deftones-esque “Bathwater” and the gentle floating guitars of “The Color”, “As We Sleep” was entirely produced by We Made God and shows a band at the height of their powers. By turns epic and gentle, the band merge intelligently crafted rock songs with the unique and powerful vocal take of Maggi. An established live draw in their home country, We Made God will be touring the UK in late 2008. Check their Myspace - www.myspace.com/wemadegod - for more details.

A big noise in their native Iceland [ We Made God ] deserve a wider audience for their self financed , self-released debut. Referencing the otherworldly ambient atmospherics of [ Sigur Rós ] and [ Deftones ]’ driving, muscular riffs, the quartet’s epic widescreen soundscapes and frontman Maggi’s keening vocals are by turns beautiful and harrowing. An audacious debut.

Now that's unexpected... obviously fans of [ Deftones ] and the likes would be quite please on this one. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I read a critic on [ We Made God ] few days ago and I cannot believe how harsh they were describing [ Sigur Ros ] and [ We Made God ] sound and the sad part is that site which I can' remember as I didn't bookmark it or anything is a post-rock website. How can you not like [ Sigur Ros ] or [ We Made God ] for that matter. Unreal, but of course everyone is entitle to their own opinion I suppose.

By the way... for the download on [ Fragments ] simply click on the [ Album Title ] once you get to the downloading page and should be all good to go. DO NOT SKIP.

Review for 52 by Orellana

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
