Glorie [ Glorie “ New Video “ ]

Instrumental band, Glorie, was formed in Memphis in the spring of 2009 by former Satyrs frontman, Jason Paxton, after an eight year hiatus from playing music. The other members of Glorie (Jonathan Kirkscey, Rob Brimhall, Andy Saunders, and Jeff Hulett) come from diverse musical backgrounds and have performed with an impressive array of artists such as Cat Power, Jay Reatard, The Bloodthirsty Lovers, Snowglobe, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and Al Green.

The band started as a desire to create more substantive, engaging instrumental music with a strong focus on melody. Their music blends acoustic, electric, and electronic sounds and draws inspiration from many genres including rock and instrumental hip- hop. Texturally, the instrumentation is diverse including layers of strings, synthesizer, guitar, piano, and vibraphone creating an entrancing thick wall of sound with a cinematic quality.

Labirinto [ Kadjwynh ]

LABIRINTO

From São Paulo city, the group was formed in 2003 by the desire and experience of friends whom aimed to work out their musical influences through the composition of instrumental music. Inspired by feature movie scores, experimental music bands & sounds and references that go beyond music itself - like arts, photography and literature -, the compositions look in to create textures and images based vibes: as in a sound track, but casting the listener to come up with the picture and scenario on his own mind.

Labirinto develops sounds, timbres and dynamics that are all equally blended, avoiding the predominance of a unique sound source. Their harmonics constructions - done by guitars, bass and drums, followed by analogic and digital synths, cello, violin, piano e other instruments - prioritize the emotions aroused by running through the whole aesthetic labyrinth.

In addition to the musical environment, the band seeks to maintain close relations to various artistic languages: designing posters and projecting images during the concerts together with visual artists; composing soundtracks to short movies and documentaries; using illustrations from graphic artists, in both physical and virtual materials produced by the band.

Labirinto is acknowledged as a pioneer in developing its musical style in Brazil. Their references are based on post-rock, progressive rock, experimentalism, minimalism, classical and Brazilian popular music. After some years of career consolidation, the band is one of the most respected and renowned in the indie scene, getting good reviews from the public and the press.

After one year and a half of the Anatema album release, Labirinto's new EP is almost finished, and already has a name: Kadjwynh - it is a brazilian indian word for "vital energy".

The album is being physically produced in the U.S. in two formats: CD and picture disc vinyl. The tracks were mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac/Mission of Burma) who had worked with the band on the previous album Anatema.

The recording and mixing sessions happened at Mosh and Dissenso Studios, both in Brazil, during the last 4 months, and the beautiful artwork, with influences from comic books, was created by Ricardo Sasaki, following the concept developed for the album.

The EP will be released in March and April during the band's second tour to the U.S. and Canada, with two festivals among the other 15 dates: Canadian Music Fest (Toronto) and Heart of Texas Rock Fest (Austin). 
The band was also invited to release the new EP at the renowed Casa del Popolo (Montréal), owned by members of the cult instrumental group Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

The Kadjwynh release in Brazil will take place in São Paulo, in late April, when the band returns from the international tour. All concert dates can be seen in the new band's website which has been redesigned following the artistic conception of the new EP. At the website you can get the latest news, videos, photos and a brief diary of Kadjwynh recordings. Also during the tour, the band will update the blog with a tour diary daily. Keep posted! To have a small taste of the new album, the track "Cairo" was featured in the European compilation More Hope for Japan by the end of 2011, and a new remixed version is also part of the EP.

FINALLY IT'S HERE: The tour is over and the EP is now available for download. It's Loud, it's intensely Dark, amazingly Drone(y) with a touch of classical built, especially "Cairo" and above all it's flawless and it's free. So be sure to get it. [ Kadjwynh ] only last for about 20 to 25mins but it's rediculously good and well done. Been waiting for this for a while and I am totally excited about it.

Collapse Under The Empire [“Fragments of a Prayer” + “Interview”]

Collapse Under The Empire is an instrumental / post-rock duo from Hamburg / Germany. They formed 2007, when Chris Burda and Martin Grimm got together to develop their own music. Collapse Under The Empire is a 2-piece post-rock band with an electronic feel which makes the band unique, but equally inspiring and other said bands of their genre. Fusing keyboards, synthesizers, guitars, and drums to form a soul searching ambience that speaks volumes to the world through music. The thing I love about intrumental music is that anyone in the world can listen and enjoy it. You dont have to understand a certain language for the song to speak to you, and the music speaks to everyone in their own personal and different way.

Their latest album "Shoulders & Giants" which was released in late 2011 was their 3rd full length album released by the band. The album, and their previous albums, inspire me as a musician and a person in general and gave me the idea to reach out to them for more information about C.U.T.E and learn more about what it takes to become an internationally touring band and just to have the privelege of talking to an amazing band. I sent this interview off and this is the result. I hope their words and music inspire you all as much as they have for me. "Collapse Under the Empire" Interview & Forth-coming Album

8. Is there anything else that I didnt touch on that you would want your fans to know?

Chris:

Yeah, in the last 3 months we’ve been especially creative, and therefore this summer we’ll already be releasing our next full length album called “Fragments of a Prayer”, with 10 tracks. The new tracks are not as gloomy-sounding as on other albums and are partially more orchestrally oriented. In some tracks, like “The Beyond”, which is accompanied by strings, pianos, horns and woodwinds, we sound more like a film sound track.

We would be happy to work more with the film sound track theme in the future, because we’ve long planned to compose a complete sound track. I think that our music would function well as a sound track. So if a film director or music supervisor happens to read this interview, they should totally get in touch with us!

The new album wasn’t really planned since we wanted to work on the second part of our concept album, “Sacrifice & Isolation”, because it’s appearing end of next year. The funny thing is, the new album came out of work on a B-side for our last single, “There’s no Sky”. We quickly realized that the track composed for the B-side was too good, and decided to write 2 or 3 more tracks to make a small digital EP. When we quickly had 2 more tracks, we decided we would release a mini album... and now it’s become a complete album! As soon as you get into the creative process you get into this mood from time to time, and an album can arise relatively quickly. We’re very proud of the album, because in our opinion, it contains some of our best and all-encompassing compositions of recent times.

Crimson Mourn is the solo-project of Mauro Beltran, a 17 years old boy from Valencia, Spain. His project is a complete DIY concept for this young musician who is just trying to reach something to call "own". His first album title [ Our Eyes Closed ] was released this year "2011" and it’s out for free.

As the kid [ M. Beltran ] is trying to reach the right ears to promote his music. The entire album was recorded with cheap and worthless materials, but behind the music lies the a great deal of passion, love and sweetness to create something that is totally out of this world.

In the place where he live’s his music is almost invisible and choked with lots of mainstream characters. The name [ Crimson Mourn ] comes from his first book main character. [ M. Beltran ] 2nd album has already begun PAY ATTENTION! as a huge surprise awaits for all of us in the near future. [ M. Beltran ] is also involved playing in another band call [ Tears And Emphasis ].

[ Our Eyes Were closed ] ~ Definitely one of the most talented 17 years old chap I've come across in my entire five years blogging history. I MEAN IT LADS. Talking about cheap materials... Well, have a listen for yourself and tell me. EXCELLENT sound going here, anyone who can pull a record at this caliber at the age of 17 then he or she should be able to conquer the underground music world by the time he reaches 27.

[ Bring Your Desires Here ] ~ Dear listeners, his is my second album. I'm 18 years old, and I'm trying to make my dreams come true. This album is a compilation of 9 months of pure work. There's love, hate, dissapointment, enthusiasm, suffering, hope, happiness and sadness on every track. A bunch of feelings gathered in 72 minutes from my soul and heart speaking, just for you. Casilofi [ Sounds ] & [ Little Treasure ]

Casilofi is [ Sander van Dijck’s ] sound project. Without being held to any guidelines, rules or other limitations, he writes music; music for the open minded. Inspired by everyday sounds and emotions, he produces songs that can’t really be categorized into one specific box. From Ambient, to Indie, to Post-Rock, to IDM and so on. He also works with other inspiring artists and loves experimenting with all kinds of instruments, effects and recording techniques.

To date [ Casilofi ] has released a full album title [ Sounds ] in 2011 and a mini three track album / EP title [ Little Treasure ] in 2012. Both titles are available for free on the artist BandCamp page and is highly recommended based on the quoted tags.

[ Теми и Идеи ] is the side project [ fydhws ]. He has been working on this project for the past six months. [ Теми и Идеи ] translated as (Themes and Ideas) and taking a radical turn to neo-classical style. [ The Rigged Orchestra ] got nothing to do with drones, noise, ambient, or guitars although the compositions were developed on acoustic guitar. Go get it guys it's an amazingly beautiful album.

This is zero-frills rock, (sort of, not really): guitar, bass, drums, a pedal board, the occasional piano. Wordless and unorthodox, it is nevertheless clear there is a plot to all of this — a screen full of character actors, menace, and resolution — you just won’t be able to divine it.

Distorted, unjagged guitar; bass drum worship, air raid dissonance, and unabashed ironworking. It’s difficult to remember a hard rock project so fiercely independent, one so tirelessly devoted to discovery. [ __review by "The Muse In Music" ].

Minimalistic, very slowly progressing primal sonic atoms, threatening infiltrating drone overthrows, static krautrock effects, and a kind of sound which comes very close to the sound-art-like approach. Knob-screwers` output indeed. [ __review by "Recent music heroes" ].

Sofy Major & Membrane [ SPLIT ].

Permission To Engage, with no question mark. Because Sofy Major doesn’t ask for. With their debut album, Mathieu (bass-vocals), Seb (guitar) and Mathieu (drums) from Clermont-Fd (FRA) authorize themselves to fire at will. Result is they break many walls between extreme musical styles, to resume in fifty minutes what others have been trying for years.

But it was the least these three hard workers (and not rockers, unless maybe…) could do for their first full length : no way, after several releases going from hardcore to doom and intensive touring over France and Europe, that the band stops a perpetual evolution guided by a DIY work and life ethic. Far beyond anything they’ve done before, Permission to Engage takes Sofy Major to a new step in the band’s career. With this first collaboration with Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Made Out of Babies, Keelhaul, Converge), expect no-prisoners-shows and epic assaults on stage. And the charge is just getting started.

================================================================== [ METALSTORM ] ~ Sofy Major, or, how not to make friends with a stellar debut. Sofy Major is your no bullshit kind of band. This French trio has a clear agenda: obliterating body and soul through consistently heavy music. At the same time Sofy Major is also your versatile kind of band with many dead-eyed faces. Yep, ambivalence will reign supreme in this review; I suggest you start dealing with it (the escape exit is the X at your upper right, ladies).

After such an intro, I'm sure you're all expecting a detailed and coherent description of the Sofy Major sound. Truth is this band doesn't roll that way. By keeping the accessibility to a strict minimum the band isn't offering the listener many handrails. This is pretty much Dakar Rally music; very challenging and demanding, and dangerously easy to get stuck in the quicksand before giving up altogether.

Cathedral-sized rhythm patterns sway back and forth between claustrophobic sludge with a vague post-hardcore sneer and, well, dissonant noise. ...And that's all I came up with after weeks of repeated listens and trying to put this music into words. I really got nothing here. Since I kept wandering off into these weird sludge-induced trips, I'll just share one of those. So in case you aren't blessed with an abundance of imagination, Sofy Major won't be your thing either (the escape exit is still the X at your upper right).

You find yourself in the vast tundra wastelands. You see a lonely Ice Age hunter-gatherer. Stumbling through the snow, running for his life. Chased by a herd of fierce mammoths, seemingly startled by signature hardcore screams coming from the distance. The tremendously heavy animals pummel along and along. Eventually catching up and trampling the man, leaving him crippled in the freezing cold.

The Watermarkhigh [ Slow Motion Clarity “EP” ]

The Watermark High is the alias of Johannesburg [ South Africa ] based experimental electronic musician, Paul van der Walt. The endeavour’s evocative sound typically evolves around the mergence of various electronic elements with acoustic instruments. Paul released his debut album, “Loneliness As An Art Form”, in 2009 and a remix EP of songs from that album entitled “Loneliness Remixes”, in 2010. March 29th 2012 saw the release of the first new Watermark High material since then, in the form of a 5 track download-only EP entitled “Slow Motion Clarity”.

The “Slow Motion Clarity” EP was recorded over a number of sessions at revered South African electronic producer, Jacob Israel’s Benjamin Studio based in Pretoria, throughout 2011, barring the title track, which Paul engineered and mixed himself, at his home studio. The EP was mastered by 12K Records founder and ambient musician, Taylor Deupree, at 12K Mastering in New York, USA. Taylor has worked with a wide range of renowned artists and labels including Hammock, Friends of Friends Records, Own Records etc.

The first song off the EP to have been recorded and released for online streaming in early 2011, “Maybe Tomorrow, Everything Will Be Different”, led to a publishing deal with international publishing company, Massive Music [ Amsterdam, New York, Shanghai, Los Angeles, London ] through their Massive Talent initiative. Between live performances throughout South Africa over the coming months, Paul is already working on his next EP to be released later this year, in his attempt to release more music, more often, albeit through a series of singles and/or EPs.

Seeing that this physical version was extremely limited, it was decided to release these remixes for download as well, as a separate remix EP.

Volte Face [ One Night Alone ]

Following a solo project in late 2010, Volte Face experimenst and mixes different musical influences. Closely attached to the strength of sound, the band products on his own his first EP called "Easy Play".

From the keen 80s sound to the hypnotic instrumental vibrations, Volte Face immerses you in an explosive cocktail. Today, the Rennes-based trio presents "One Night Alone". Their latest production is a major turning point for their next composings, with incisive Post Rock Electro riffs.

Always seeking for sonorous drunkenness and sensations, Volte Face is preparing his first album, while working on his new visuals for the shows.

There's not much to go on this single, three tracks, just over 10 minutes but if you do like your post-rock blend with a nice feel of electroscape tune then this might just be the right way to go. Quite promising indeed.
