Library Tapes consists of David Wenngren from Gävle, Sweden and is an experimental/ambient band. Per Jardsell was a member of Library Tapes but left after the release of the first album.
Later release saw the artist collaborated with Colleen, Erik Skodvin [ Deaf Centre & Svarte Greiner ] ~ [ Peter Broderick ] ~ [ Danny Norbury ] and [ Sylvain Chauveau ]. David Wenngren also releases as Forestflies and Xeltrei.
[ Sleepless Nights ] ~ David Wenngren arrives with the first album released under his own name. The first marked difference between this album and Wenngren’s prior works is the emphasis on string arrangements and experimental electronic processing.
The piano remains a key constituent of Wenngren’s vocabulary, but here its timbres are often shrouded in digital treatments that bring the music closer in tone to Kenneth Kirschner and Taylor Deupree’s post-piano material than the Harold Budd-style ambience of old.
This is an approach that suits Wenngren greatly, and the combination of sonic abstraction with the Library Tapes man’s more romantic, ornamental instincts makes for an immensely beautiful record. It’s so hard to keep up with all the neo-romantic pseudo-classical recordings being made at the moment but this, ladies and gentlemen, is undoubtedly a very good one.
