Butterfly Explosion are a band from Ireland that blend powerful spiraling music with delicate vocals to form rich soundscapes of beautiful melodies, gliding between moments of ethereal dreampop and explosive sonic bliss.

The debut album [ LOST TRAILS ] is released March 2010 on Revive Records, recorded and produced with Torsten Kinsella [God Is An Astronaut]. A week after the release Butterfly Explosion jumped into the top 5 of Last.FM’s “hyped artists” chart and also debuted in the CMJ 200 college radio charts, a week ahead of the band’s US tour and appearance at SXSW 2010.

The album has also been receiving extensive airplay from Ireland’s leading alternative music shows such as Paul McLoone (TodayFM) and Dan Hegarty (2FM) who described the lead single ‘Closer’ as “My Bloody Valentine meets M83 meets Sigur Ros in Heaven”.

With two critically acclaimed EPs, the band have toured from Dublin to London and New York to Toronto with bands such as Howling Bells, God Is An Astronaut, 65daysofstatic, Serena Maneesh, Film School, Land Of Talk, Giant Drag, The Like and The Delays.

When UK webzine Drowned In Sound had a week of articles in April 2009 dedicated to the revival and diverse influence of the early 90s shoegaze scene, Butterfly Explosion were amongst the international artists highlighted as ones to watch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Their releases just get better and better.... little bits of the noisy sounds of slowdive, the wailing distorted guitars of my bloody valentine and even the slow building post rock of the likes of mogwai, lots of heavy swirling guitars, lush synths and thunderous but slow building drums" ALBUM REVIEW: [ Turn The Sky ] Their new EP, is quite glorious. Like a loved-up Radiohead, Butterfly Explosion deal in weighty dirges but with choruses you can hum on the bus". Turn the Sky, has the potential to be successful, and not just with numbers, but with influence. [ Vision EP ] An oddly uncomforting solo drum beat is followed by a corny guitar riff, and unimpressive vocals. The guitar rhythm throughout the song is boring and amateurish, and feels awkwardly naked without the aid of effects.

Review for OVUM by Chronotope Project

Crafting a concept album is an incredibly difficult task. Tying together a cohesive narrative across a record’s worth of songs isn’t just daunting, it’s an endeavour that even some of the industry’s finest have failed to do memorably. This task, however, becomes notably more difficult when you’re dealing in the abstract via instrumental soundscapes. That is what Chronotope Project, the moniker of composer Jeffrey Ericson Allen, attempts to do with his latest project, ‘Ovum.’

Review of A703 by Naal

NAAL is an eclectic music project led by Chicago composer Dave Mantel. This talented musician has a true passion for great melodies and haunting musical textures. His blend of ambient, shoegaze and experimental drone music feels personal and unique, echoing the work of artists such as Slowdive, Boards of Canada or Sigur Ros, just to mention a few.
