Matthew Joel – The Rocky Mountains
This album is an attempt to capture the grandeur of the mountains, in song form. Growing up in British Columbia the Mountains have always been a big part of my life. There’s something about the shear rock faces, and tree clad valleys that feel like home.
These tracks don’t have a lot of words in them, perhaps and odd musical direction for me–those who know me understand that I usually spend my time strumming folk songs on an acoustic guitar. However, after being finished these tracks I feel that these they are as much apart of me as any other.
For these songs I took a lot of inspiration from the obvious, like The Album Leaf and Explosions in the Sky, but This Will Destroy You’s “Young Mountain” was perhaps the biggest influence. Every one needs to hear that album.
It is my hope that these tracks can be a nice accompaniment to any future cozy winter afternoons.
~~~~~~~~ ( And for a STRONGLY RECOMMENDED ambient post-rock sound. Think [ port-royal ] ~ [ Absent Without Leave ] ~ [ Arms and Sleepers ] and the like. GOOD STUFF. [ MySpace ] | [ Last.Fm ] ). ~~~~~~~~~
