With a hyperactive assemblage of manic roar, low-tuned guitars, chaotic riffs and pummeling drums, British hardcore ensemble LAVOTCHKIN has created an equally oppressive as exciting musical version of social ills and moral inclinations. The “Widow Country” EP is crammed with ghostly images, dark atmospheres and deafening cacophonies, driven by a stunning unwillingness to compromise and almost physically tangible rage.
After the band’s debut EP “The Oldest Suicide Cult” (2006) as well as split-releases with JOSEPH (2007), CROCUS (2009) and ATTACK VIPERS! (2010), “Widow Country” marks the fifth release for the Newcastle upon Tyne based quintet since its foundation in 2006. The songs have been recorded by Jason Sanderson (u.a. ROLO TOMASSI, THE PLIGHT) and mastered by Alan Douches (u.a. CONVERGE, MASTODON).
“Widow Country” is a vociferous indication that in recent years in England’s grim north a once tender plant has grown up to considerable size. Thanks to hard work and relentless presence on stages around Europe, LAVOTCHKIN have earned a reputation as a must see live act – a reputation that they have started to extend to the spheres of recorded music! Shows in mainland Europe are in the works for 2011.
