Biography

Still Blue Still Turning is a Brooklyn-based duo focused on the intersection of ambient music, minimalism, and slow-fi. The band emerged in the fall of 2009 with a studio album entitled Simone, which turned out to be a transition from the band members’ previous work in shoegaze / dreampop toward the ambient, dreamy material for which they are better known. In June 2010 the artists reached back to the warmth of warped analog for their second release, a self-titled cassette.

In June of the following year the band went on tour in the Northeast, visiting — along with Teaadora and fellow Hand Rolled Gold artist Gospels — Boston, Roxbury, Easthampton, Providence, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, and New York City. In July Still Blue Still Turning released a cassette from their performance at the Paper Sun in Washington. On September 11, 2011, the duo released their two year long project American Artist, a two-disc release. A few weeks later, during Hurricane Irene, Ryan and Ray recorded the seeds of their latest album, Hurricanes, released after a wintering of polish on February 1, 2012.

Ryan Brady is an artist studying at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. His works include paintings, drawings, video, and most prominently, sculpture. Ryan’s latest piece, which has made its way into many Still Blue Still Turning shots, is a two-ton, 10′ x 10′ x 12′ sculpture of wood, steel, and stain. It stands on the grounds of Delanco in Tabernacle Township, New Jersey.

Ray Duer is a budding historian at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. His work centers on Latin American history, a focus that developed while traveling throughout the Southern Cone in 2009. He is currently writing a thesis on the movements for independence in Chiapas, Mexico, during the 1820s.
