[ Underwaters ] debut EP “Once In June” offers a laidback down tempo sound through 6 movements that cohesively merged an array of musical influences such as Down-tempo, Up-tempo, IDM, break-beat and ambient topped up with crystal clear vocals of Nathalie Cahuzac. Haling from Spain, Underwaters is the end results of Jorge aka .ender. [ Spain ] who takes care of the keyboards, crazy machines and intelligent instruments and Nathalie Cahuzac [ France ] who take us on a journey with her voice, lyrics, guitar or any other noise.

“Once In June” can best described as a mixture between Portishead early forays into dark electronic soundscapes and Saltillo or Subheim piano / keys driven ambient. Compositions such as “Smoke and Fire” and “Fight In Bloom.” Underwaters successfully blends the conventional approach of electronic music elements into a rich yet flawless sound that is built upon carefully layering a variety of simple parts. [ putting together an electronic puzzle ].

In addition, Jorge manages to use electronics in such way that sounds very organic and fluid, which gives the music a superior emotion. Some of the more tantalizing pieces on the album include “Upload Me” which is a dark ambient with simple, yet elegant keys, hums and clear lyrics. “Smoke and Fire,” by the same token uses strong arrangements to create a melancholic sense of isolation and despair. Another interesting aspect of Underwaters sound is that when the female vocals are employed, they are done in a very subtle and none provoking manner that simply makes it another fine attribution that dissolves into the ambience that Jorge creates and that can be experienced across the entire EP.

And here goes the 2nd release by the phenomenal ambient outfit known as [ Underwaters ]. The mixes together with the lead female vocalist sound absolutely wonderful and, in my opinion, only complimented the beauty of [ Underwaters ] music. The band also made few videos with voices and visual effects with an intimate atmosphere where darkness and obscurity only compliments each other. The four track EP title [ Black ] is composed, produced, mixed and mastered by underwaters. The EP is available on purchase the artists [ BANDCAMP ] page and FREE download can be found on the artists [ OFFICIAL .COM ] page. Be sure to get it lads.

Missed the Boat by Erik Kramer

On Saturday, May 20, multi-instrumentalist and lauded bass player Erik Kramer released his debut studio endeavor, an EP entitled ‘Missed the Boat.’ The Brooklyn-based musician has an especially eclectic sound, one that employs the talent of a slew of musicians: saxophone, trombone, viola, trumpet, back-up vocalists - they’re all there. An experimental record through and through, ‘Missed the Boat’ is an indie record quite unlike anything else that’s come across my desk in recent months.

The Great Long Distance by John D. Reedy

The Great Long Distance is an audible recollection of the first 12 months of a long distance relationship, including the highs and lows and moments in between. It is a journal without words, each of the 12 tracks representing each month respectively. Inspired by the format of NIN's "Ghosts I-IV", the album is a sonic tapestry of different moods and themes, with various recurring motifs and the subtle melding of synthesizer and samples; the result something not quite classical, ambient or electronic - rather, an eclectic blend of the three. For fans of Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and later Ulver
