The Atlas Room Profile

One laptop and an 8 week family holiday gave birth to the atlas room. Borrowing ideas from minimal art, trip hop and idm, the atlas room is an attempt at orchestrating a set of densly textured metamorphic sounds and patterns. Watch out for a new release by mid 2010. Borrowing ideas from minimal art, trip hop and idm, the atlas room is an exploration of the lines between the organic and the digital worlds we traverse, with a focus on creating densely textured soundscapes.

2014 Split “Berlin” by [ From Trees / The Atlas Room ].

Unlike the other albums this particular Split “Berlin” bring an emotive style that's truly cathartic. The melodies are superb and they are matched with equally delightful instrumentals. The album open’s up with a thirteen minute movement, by [ From Trees ], an outstanding piece with catchy words and tunes, wistful pop, far more emotionally poignant than many of the ‘power & volume’ acts I’ve come across. The more I listen to this track the more I feel that my writing doesn’t do “Intrapersonal Communications pt. I, II & III” justice . That’s how beautiful it is… back to back vocals, acoustic guitars, whistling in the background, yes, musically it is consistently lovely and lyrically the content is all there.

[ Berlin ] instantly takes a different turn on the 2nd movement “By Nature” which is done by [ The Atlas Room ] aka Ezekiel. This track is split in three parts “By Nature 1, 2 and 3” which at the end sums up the entire listening experience. On “By Nature” the listening experience immediately drives in the category of [ Brian Eno ], [ Ous Mal ], [ The Field Recording ], [ Small Life Form ], [ Thursday Bloom ] and the likes. All lyrics and vocals are simultaneously substitute with subtle ambience and soundscaping.

The total duration of “By Nature” ticks around fifteen minutes and listeners can be carried away in a dreamlike atmosphere in the most gentle way. Usually I don’t do this very often on artists, but if I were to state the high and lows of this brand new Split by [ From Trees / The Atlas Room ], on high I’d say the vocals on [ From Trees ] took me by surprise, the lyrics and the passive / aggressive attitude on “Intrapersonal Communications pt. I, II & III” is simply ecstatic. The atmosphere shift between “Intrapersonal Communications pt. I, II & III” and “By Nature pt. I, II & III” is also something totally outstanding.

Really, there are too many high’s to state while on the low side the only thing that could have made [ Berlin ] a better listening experience is the merging of “By Nature pt. I, II & III” all together as one track. Like how [ From Trees ] did on “Intrapersonal Communications pt. I, II & III”. Other than that, this new release Split is flawless. Check it out guys, and be prepared to set this recording on repeat play. We’ve got a winner here. Thank you for “Berlin” a job very well done on this one.

Missed the Boat by Erik Kramer

On Saturday, May 20, multi-instrumentalist and lauded bass player Erik Kramer released his debut studio endeavor, an EP entitled ‘Missed the Boat.’ The Brooklyn-based musician has an especially eclectic sound, one that employs the talent of a slew of musicians: saxophone, trombone, viola, trumpet, back-up vocalists - they’re all there. An experimental record through and through, ‘Missed the Boat’ is an indie record quite unlike anything else that’s come across my desk in recent months.
