Pipe Dream” is the third Jet Plane album. Its mood, emotions and imagery have been inspired by events going on around us – in the here and now. Beautiful airy tunes entwine into an atmosphere of tension and dismay, ethereality and featheriness are followed by a vibrant crescendo. Peace and harmony seem a pipe dream; but it has long been considered just as inapproachable for a man to hit the skies and fly. So let us dream.
Classic post-rock harmonies enframed by violin remind of Mogwai and Yndi Halda. Apart from that, Jet Plane employ bagpipes and nyckelharpa, which is the band’s specialty distinguishing them from the rest. The album sound has been also moulded by famous Japanese musicians and sound producers Takahiro Kido and Kashiwa Daisuke having worked on album’s mixing and mastering.

The Velveteins just released their new single “Don’t Yah Feel Better” from their forthcoming debut LP Slow Wave. The music for “Don’t Yah Feel Better” came to them pretty easily. Around the same time they penned the song, they were listening to a lot of traditional Indian music which inspired the guitar melody. They wanted to make the lyrics feel lighthearted, and about how everything you need is around you, you just have to stop and listen for it. The single is coming ahead of their debut full-length Slow Wave, which they are releasing with Fierce Panda Canada in 2017.

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
