New songs - Castles High, Mable Bright by Caspian

Caspian

Phil Jamieson of Caspian had this to say about the new songs: "Castles High, Marble Bright" was conceived, written and recorded alongside the collection of songs that would become Dust and Disquiet, an album that sought to capture the dialogue between a newly found, furrow browed cynicism and a fractured but unbroken sense of stubbornly epic, dramatically determined optimism that we've been trying to emulate with our music for 12 years. The 60 minutes of Dust and Disquiet ended up speaking a bit to both; Castles..." speaks exclusively and entirely to the latter. We find ourselves over a year later touring behind this collection of songs still, with over 150 shows in 30 countries across 3 continents in the can. With the end finally in sight as we look to close out this 4 year chapter together, "Castles High, Marble Bright" is our North Star, our way home, and our celebration of that decision to fully embrace the above dialogue head on, all the while finding that, indeed still, hope lies within.

"127 North" is the sound of 6 guys playing in a room together on a Friday afternoon, and is in some ways the least ambitious thing we've ever committed to tape. Free from the grip of over arrangement, overdubs, click tracks, excessive chin stroking and the like, "127 North" is what a Caspian song sometimes sounds like in its infancy. It's a vulnerable moment for us to introduce people to a song that exists in this kind of limbo, somewhere between improvisation and a fully composed piece of music. It's an honest moment and all a part of the process, of course. Maybe it's time to invite people behind the curtain a little... there's some old couches, a few beers and maybe a few high fives back here waiting for you. Some days are less serious than others, and that's quite alright with us.

Caspian is about to kick off their upcoming tour with The Appleseed Cast.

New single - Bybird by Section

2016-10-21 00:19:56 UTC

Section

Section is the moniker of writer/producer Danny Belgrad, a 21-year-old studying philosophy at Yale University. He makes hazy, ethereal indie-pop laced with dreamy synths and somber melodies. He also loves 8-bit Nintendo music and is an aspiring time traveler. "I've been writing music on guitar and piano for many years, but never sought out to self-produce music," Belgrad explains. "At a certain point, I became enthralled with the idea of realizing a singular creative vision in music, something that I felt was the defining characteristic of current indie music. To that end, I began producing and mixing music in early January. Radiohead and Wilco have long been my favorite artists, but Grimes and Tame Impala are certainly the most inspiring figures to me, considering that their records are born from individuals who write, produce, and mix their own music. I'm also obsessed with Computer Magic and Porches, but they haven't conquered the world in the same way haha," he continues. "I suppose I call my project indie-rock, but I'd be lying if I said I completely understand the distinction between synth-pop/dream-pop/indie-pop/electro-pop, etc. I guess I could also be any of those also.

New track - The Ratio by Garlands

2016-10-19 04:00:14 UTC

Garlands

Garlands is a Dream Pop / Newgaze (Shoegaze) band from Oakland California formed in 2014 by Bay Area musicians, Lisa Light of The Lovemakers (Interscope) and El Elle and Mikael Johnston of Mephisto Odyssey (Warner Bros.) and Dresden & Johnston. Veering left of their collective pop and dance background, Garlands is an exploration of the liminal and subtle elements of sound and melody. Beach House, Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star may, Bat for Lashes come to mind upon first taste, but there are many layers within. Two years in the making, the debut album features intricate poetries and plenty of velvet-covered hooks. Swedish mixer Hans Ollson Brookes (I Break Horses) completes the sonic palette with his faraway spacious touch.

Review for Triad by Groundburst

GroundBurst is an instrumental rock trio whose sound strikes for the band’s kaleidoscopic approach and wide-open mindset. The band consists of Phil, Si, and Erik, respectively on guitars, bass & keys, and drums. These three talented musicians set out to create a lush, diverse and textural musical backdrop, borrowing from influences as diverse as electronic music, psychedelia, rock and even jazz with a minimalistic flair. Their recent release, “Triad” is an EP featuring 3 original compositions, as the title of the release might lead you to guess!
